Happy First Birthday Davis Branch Bayou Emmi Bleu

FKA Miss Pink also goes by the following; Madame Em, Hooligan and the Devine Miss Em. Not to mention Shit for Brains. I can't believe she is a year old. It has been an exciting year and yes I have the hound I so badly wanted. And she is a well socialized girly. Loves people, kids, dogs and howls at cats. She is a pleasure to train and very quick to learn. We can't wait until spring so we can start tracking training. We stopped to see the Bloodhounds last Sunday. At first she was a little over whelmed by the noise, ya the loud mouth afraid of the noise. But that disappeared fast.  And she definitely approves of the Hound Master, when Flo got off the couch from beside him, Em hooped up and sat leaning against him. If that isn't a sign I don't know what is.

Video from Yesterday's attempt at herding

I think I forgot almost everything I learned a year and a half ago! I want to thank the sheep, Davie and Randy for being very patient with a person who doesn't know her right from her left, talks too loud and  can't walk in either a circle or a straight line.  It is so hard to think about so many things at once, watch your dog, watch the sheep, listen to the instructor and don't fall over the sheep. I always come away from this having a greater and greater appreciation of the people who do herding with their dogs, whether it be for sport of as part of their everyday life. I also come away with even more respect for Border Collies. You can see the hard wiring in this just like you can see how a hound's nose is hardwired to follow a scent. I am so lucky to have two wonderful dogs at two ends of the spectrum. Each with their own unique set of abilities that it is up to me to learn with them to develop. It is a challenge but I love it.

And please note that there were no sheep or dogs over worked or injured in anyway. The only one who is sore today is me. My butt hurts!
And big thank you to Francesca for the pictures and video.

Davie's Gotcha Day

It is two years ago today since I first met my handsome buddy. As a special surprise today his Aunty Franny managed to find him some sheep and someone to help me! This is not an easy thing in this country. He was sooo happy and so was I. I think I cried all the way from Fran's to home. Such a incredible friend. Emmi got to come too and watch from the confines of the truck. But never fear she got to walk around and smell sheep, cattle, ducks, guinea hens and lots of other smells I can't even imagine. A special thanks to Randy and his dogs for helping mainly me. And special thanks to the sheep. I think they were very gracious in that they didn't run me over. You will see what I mean.

Waiting their turn
Yep on my butt again and this was way harder than last time in the manure pile!

Snow Monster

We were out horse, husky and house sitting last week. It was a beautiful couple of days and we couldn't resist doing something with the sticky snow. The dogs were very curious as to what I was doing. And yes they did help although there help turnes a traditiona; snowman into a Snow Monster! And yes Shiloh and Oakey seem to have a special relationship
